The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is making dental care more affordable for eligible Canadians. If you’ve been hearing about this new program but aren’t sure what it covers or how to qualify, you’re not alone. At Century Dental, we’re committed to helping our patients navigate the process and access the care they deserve. Here’s what you need to know.
Who Is Eligible for the Canadian Dental Care Plan?
The CDCP is available to Canadians who meet certain requirements. To qualify, you must:
- Be a Canadian resident
- Have no private dental insurance
- Have a household income under $90,000
- Have filed your latest tax return and received your Notice of Assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency
Eligibility is also based on age. As of May 2025, the following groups are eligible to apply:
- Seniors aged 65 and older
- Adults aged 55 to 64
- Adults aged 18 to 54 with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate
- Children under 18
- Adults aged 18 to 34 (applications open May 15, 2025)
- Adults aged 35 to 54 (applications open May 29, 2025)
If you fall into one of these groups and meet the other criteria, you may be able to access dental care through the CDCP.
What Services Are Covered?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan helps cover many essential dental services. Coverage amounts vary depending on your income level, but services that may be included are:
- Dental exams and checkups
- Cleanings and scaling
- X-rays
- Fillings and basic restorative care
- Tooth extractions
- Some additional treatments, depending on eligibility
At Century Dental, we can help you understand which treatments are covered under your plan and what, if any, out-of-pocket costs may apply.
Do I Have to Pay Anything?
The amount you may need to pay depends on your household income. Patients with an income under $70,000 may have full coverage for eligible services. Those with a household income between $70,000 and $89,999 may need to pay a co-payment ranging from 40% to 60%. We’ll discuss any costs with you ahead of treatment so there are no surprises.
Can Century Dental Bill the Plan Directly?
Yes! Century Dental is a participating provider under the Canadian Dental Care Plan. We can bill the plan directly through Sun Life on your behalf, so you won’t have to worry about paperwork or submitting claims.
