A dental bridge (or partial denture) is a custom-made appliance that is an excellent way to literally “bridge the gap” of a missing tooth.

Dental Bridges

Artificial teeth are attached to a plastic base that resembles a natural gum look. The base of the bridge is attach and supported by abutments, which are also know as anchoring teeth.

There are two types of bridges: fixed and removable.  Both are typically constructed from gold alloys, non-precious alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials.  The most popular type is porcelain fused to metal.

Dental bridges are very durable and with proper care they will last 10-20 years, however they may need to be replaced or re-cemented due to normal wear.  Usually, two office visits are required to complete the procedure.

Reasons for a Bridge

  • Fill in space of missing teeth
  • Maintain your facial shape
  • Prevent your teeth from moving out of position if you have a missing tooth.
  • Restore speaking and chewing ability
  • Upgrade from a partial denture to a permanent dental appliance
  • Restore your smile
